About Emily

Emily has been teaching since graduating from Westminster Choir College in 2009. Her studios in Flemington and Princeton, NJ were robust, and she specialized in lessons for kids from ages 8 to 80! She worked with choral singers, burgeoning musical theater stars, and folks who just enjoyed singing loudly alone in their cars. She auditioned for operas and did some work with small regional companies in the Northeast, but realized that she loved concert work and choral singing above all else.

While in New York, Emily sang professionally at Park Avenue Synagogue, St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church, St. Mary the Virgin, Times Square, Madison Avenue Presbyterian, and as a full-time member of The Marble Choir at Marble Collegiate Church, where she was also the choral contractor for five seasons. She was interim director of children's ministry at St. James' Episcopal Church, Madison Avenue in 2015. Working with four year olds for a few hours each week led her to realize just how much she loved teaching! One Christmas pageant preparation complete, and she was smitten. Working with enthusiastic youngsters has been truly inspiring and building a voice studio in Belmont is her most current project.

Emily has worked at Trinity Church Wall Street, The Juilliard School, New York Festival of Song, HiArt! Kids, and the TimeIn Children’s Art Initiative. Emily is currently board president of 5BMF, The 5 Boroughs Music Festival; she has been a member of their board since 2016. She was a member of the Programming Committee 2015-2018 for the American Guild of Organists, NYC Chapter. Emily has been practicing yoga since 2002, and incorporates much of this training into her teaching. Body awareness, posture, and breath are important building blocks for singing, and for life in general!

Emily is a graduate of Westminster Choir College (MM) and St. John's College, Santa Fe (BA). She spent her high school years as a boarding student at Phillips Exeter Academy, in New Hampshire. There she specialized in Latin and Greek, and she was one of the only women to graduate with a classics diploma in 1999. Emily lives in Belmont, MA with her husband, organist, composer & conductor, James Kennerley, and their son Noah.
